Specters are a Combat Class machine in Horizon Forbidden West. They are the servants of the Far Zeniths.
History
Background
Specters were utilized by Far Zenith during their residence on Sirius. However, when Nemesis broke containment, it was able to hack the Specters and use them to strange some of the Zeniths.[1]
The thirteen survivors of Nemesis' attack that fled to Earth had a printing matrix that could produce Specters,[2] which were often used as guards or as a transport vehicle.[3][4]
Horizon Forbidden West
Aloy encountered Specters several times while fighting against the Zeniths, but she was able to destroy or avoid them.[3][5][6]
Specters rushing into battle against HEPHAESTUS's machines.[2]
When Aloy's team infiltrated the Zenith Base, a huge army of Specters were released to fight the intruders. However, most were distracted by HEPHAESTUS's machines when the sub-function began mass producing its own machines from the printer matrix.[2]
Burning Shores
After he splintered off from the rest of the Zeniths, Londra also utilized Specters at the Burning Shores to serve as guards at dig sites and other places of importance to him.[7][8]
Appearance
Specters are covered in white-gold armor plating. They vaguely resemble the Corruptor, although far more advanced. Their 'eyes' are two rectangular blue lights. They are much more graceful and elegant in their movements, presumably due to their nanotech composition.
Abilities
Similarly to Chariot-line machines, Specters are immune to being overridden.
Specters have gold-plated armor that can turn into weapons and then gravitationally reattach themselves.

Trivia
- Prior to an update, if Aloy never scans a Specter before completing all the quests involving them, they can never be added to the notebook. However, this was later alleviated by Patch 1.07 adding an endlessly respawning Specter carcass near the Ninmah Research Lab, which can be scanned provided it is not looted first.
- Even though Specters are encountered many times throughout Horizon Forbidden West, only the first two that appeared in Cradle of Echoes are required to be killed to advance the game, all other other Specters encountered in the main quests can be avoided instead, while those who are fought during The Valley of the Fallen won't appear if the quest is done after completing Singularity.
