"All these years I hoped to see you again - if you came to run in the Proving."
Teb[2]

Teb is a recurring character in Horizon Zero Dawn. He serves as a stitcher for the Nora tribe, and was one of the few members of the tribe to show respect to Aloy while she was an outcast.

History

Horizon Zero Dawn

A young Teb training on the Brave Trails

A young Teb training on the Brave Trails.[3]

As a young Brave[4] training on the Brave Trails, Teb fell into a herd of Watchers and Striders. Unarmed, Teb faced near-certain death. However, he was saved by the young outcast Aloy, who, much to his astonishment, deftly navigated past the machines and guided him to safety. When Teb attempted to thank the girl and her guardian, Rost, his father stopped and reprimanded him for attempting to speak to outcasts (a violation of the Nora law) and dragged him away back to Mother's Heart.[3]

Despite his training, Teb didn't become much of a hunter, instead becoming a stitcher, never forgetting the girl who saved his life and the gratitude he owed her.[5]

Teb reunited with Aloy

Teb reunited with Aloy.[2]

When she arrived in Mother's Heart twelve years later to compete in the Proving, Teersa sent Aloy to see "an old friend" who turned out to be Teb. He gifted her a outfit he had crafted for her, finally giving her the thanks he never had the chance to express.[2]

When the Eclipse attacked the Nora during the Proving, Teb was drafted to help defend his tribe after many of the tribe's Braves were killed in the attack. Teb was relieved that Aloy was alive and explained to her about the aftermath of the attack.[6]

Teb was later wounded when the Eclipse returned to destroy the Nora, being taken to the safety of All-Mother Mountain. When Aloy arrives and speaks to Teb, he expresses relief that she survived the attack, and that while he is no Brave, he is of more use guarding against further attack than stitching armor. Teb was there when Aloy entered All-Mother as he was recovering from his injuries.[7]

Teb meeting Aloy at Meridian

Teb meeting Aloy at Meridian.[8]

Teb was among the Nora that volunteered to travel to Meridian, being named a Seeker in the process, to help defend Meridian from the Eclipse, in which the Carja designated him as an honorary quartermaster as he was tasked to provide healing supplies to the city's defenders. However, he did fear that if he had to fight, his wounds would come undone.[9] During the battle, Teb woke Aloy up after she was knocked out by the ridge collapsing on her.[10]

Between Horizon Zero Dawn and Horizon Forbidden West

Varl mentions that after the Battle of the Alight, the Nora returned to the Sacred Lands.[11] Although not mentioned by name, it is likely that Teb was among them.

Personality

Teb is a soft-spoken and very caring man. Unlike many among the Nora, Teb is generally tolerant towards the outside world as well as outcasts. This attitude likely stems from his childhood, when the outcast Aloy saved him from almost certain death.[3] Rather than the disdain that most Nora show towards the Sundom, Teb merely remarks that it "couldn't be any more different from the Sacred Lands".[9]

While recognizing his lack of battle skills, Teb is willing to fight when needed.[6][12] Even when injured and told he doesn't have to continue fighting, Teb will remain determined to see a battle to the end.[12]

Skills and Abilities

Teb is skilled in stitching, serving the tribe as a maker of garments and armor, as well as being able to craft the Nora Brave/Huntress outfit.[5] His stitching skills came in useful during the Eclipse invasion of the Sacred Lands, where he was able to stitch his wounds back together using a needle and thread.[12]

Teb on a Brave Trail

Teb on a Brave Trail.[3]

While he mentions himself that he isn't much of a hunter,[5] Teb is able to fight when needed,[6][12] is capable of navigating Brave Trails,[3] and was able to succeed in the Proving.[4] He is also willing to fight even when injured, although he recognizes the risk of further injury.[12][9]

The Carja saw Teb's skills as worthy enough to appoint him as an honorary quartermaster in preparation for the Battle of the Alight.[9]

Teb injured

Teb injured.[7]

While definitely not incapable during difficult situations, Teb's lack of battle and survival skills can often put him in danger, such as not being able to save himself when he fell from a Brave Trail, not being able to sneak his way out of a herd of machines on his own,[3] and often getting injured during battle.[3][7] He himself is able to recognize that he isn't much of a hunter.[5]
