The Alight is a location of cultural significance to the Carja, being the site where the Spire is located.

Description

Somewhere at the Alight are the sacred burial caves, where the most honored Carja members are buried upon death, notably Sun-Kings, other royals and heroes.[1] Also buried here are Helis's deceased wife and child, allowed to be buried here by Sun-King Jiran.[2]

Outlanders are traditionally not allowed at the Alight.[3]

History

The mesa that would come to be known as the Alight was a featureless plateau in Eagle Canyon.[4]

In the New World

The mesa would be the site of one of MINERVA's transmission arrays, which would be used to deactivate the Faro Plague.

After the reintroduction of humanity, Araman and his followers discovered the mesa and the transmission array, claiming them and the nearby mesa as their new home,[5] naming this mesa the Alight.

In the autumn of the eighth year of the reign of Sun-King Jiran, Hawk Ghalidid sought refuge at the Alight from Stalkers.[6]

In order to wipe out all life on Earth, HADES and the Eclipse facilitated an invasion of Meridian to reach the Spire. A large group mounted a defense, but were overwhelmed by corrupted machines. Varl, Erend and Sona/Talanah gathered their forces, and were joined by Aloy just before the final battle. The following fight was a race against time, with HADES unleashing wave after wave of corrupted machines. Eventually, with the destruction of the Deathbringer guarding the AI, the tides turned, and Aloy neutralized HADES, preventing a second mass extinction.[7]

Six months after the Battle of the Alight, Carja and Oseram workers were still clearing up the remnants of the battle, along with making repairs. A statue of Aloy had been constructed in honor of her role in defeating HADES, along with a memorial dedicated to those who had fallen defending Meridian and the Spire.[8]
