Rabbits, also known as Southern Beasts,[1] are species of wildlife in Horizon Zero Dawn and Horizon Forbidden West.
Rabbits that have been seen in the Horizon series appear to be cottontail rabbits, a widespread group of rabbit species found across the Americas. Additionally, an unidentified white-coated rabbit has been mentioned.[2]
History
In the Old World
Rabbit zygotes were among the animals that were successfully collected before the Faro Plague eradicated the species and stored within ARTEMIS for later use in Project Zero Dawn.
In the New World
Rabbits were released alongside other pioneer organisms by GAIA during early terraforming of Earth,[3] becoming common in the Sacred Lands, the Sundom and the Forbidden West. A white-coated breed of rabbit can also be found in Ban-Ur.[2]
While visiting Ban-Ur, Aram brought down a white-coated rabbit after three days of trying. Upon presenting it to the werak he was traveling with, one of the Banuk indicated that he had to skin and prepare it himself, an experience that nearly turned Aram to eat only maize-bread from that point on.
Horizon Zero Dawn
Rabbits became a common target for Aloy to practice her hunting skills.[4]
Behavior
Rabbits are docile and quick to flee upon detecting Aloy, their small size often making them hard to hit.
Loot
Rabbits are the only source of Rabbit Bones and Skin in Horizon Zero Dawn.
