Nilo is a mentioned-only character in Horizon Forbidden West.
History
Background
Nilo traveled to the Shining Wastes in Tenakth territory in order to track the seeds[2] of his favourite flower, the Scarletstem.[3] There, he encountered Darikka, who was ready to attack him for trespassing in the Clan Lands, but found herself unable to as she heard his singing. Nilo decided to stay in the area for a short time, while Darikka took guard duty so she could visit him. Nilo kept delaying his return to Plainsong, claiming to be staying for the flowers. The two almost began a relationship, but Darikka felt the need to return to battle, and Nilo had to return to his tribe.[2]
Nilo went on to have a daughter, Jia, with an unnamed woman. He never spoke of Darikka to his daughter.[3] He worked as an herbalist in Plainsong before relocating to Riverhymn,[4] where he tended to the blooms of others who had passed away, including that of his daughter's mother. Nilo would plant Scarletstems whenever he could, but would never pick them, preferring to watch them bloom.[3]
Nilo was a good man who lived a full life up until his death, his seeds being buried at Riverhymn.[3]

Five years after Nilo's passing,[3] Darikka went to watch the bloom of the Scarletstems where she met Nilo. Her granddaughter, Teikka, went after her, getting frustrated when her grandmother refused to leave. While bickering, the easterner Aloy found them and asked if they were okay, to which Darikka told her about Nilo. Often finding herself in Plainsong, Aloy offered to deliver some Scarletstems to Nilo on Darikka's behalf, which she happily accepted, wanting Nilo to know how she felt. Aloy found Nilo's grave being tended to by Jia in Riverhymn, where she left the Scarletstems at his grave.[1]
Aloy later returned to Darikka and Teikka, telling them how she met Nilo's daughter, who revealed that Nilo had passed away, and that she left the Scarletstems at his grave. While disappointed and saddened to learn of his passing, Darikka was happy to know he had been thinking of her. While missing out on a life with the Utaru, Darikka felt satisfied with the life she did have.[1]
